4 Monos GR-10 Tinto 2018

4 Monos GR-10 Tinto 2018

70% Garnacha, 20% Syrah, 10% Cariñena. 4 Monos (4 Monkeys) is a project started in 2010 by four wine savvy friends - Javier García, Laura Robles, David Velasco and David Moreno – in the Sierre de Gredos mountains, west of Madrid. We believe Sierre de Gredos is the most exciting region in Spain and that 4 Monos produces some of the most exciting wine from this appellation. 4 Monos mission is to capture the purity of the local old vine Garnacha grapes and the granitic soils of the area - by utilizing organic viticulture and natural winemaking methods. The Tinto is a “village” red from several parcels and is a lively, fresh, and focused expression of Garnacha is full of red fruits and would be perfect chilled next to a charcuterie board. Do not sleep on Sierre de Gredos or 4 Monos as these high elevation wines are weightless and flavorful with incomparable finesse. Very limited production!

Tasting Notes
"The red 2018 GR-10 Tinto contains a little less Cariñena and Syrah (10% and 20%, respectively) and, therefore, a little more Garnacha than the 2017 I tasted next to it. 2018 is a more complete vintage, with perfect ripening of the grapes, better yields and more balance in the wines. The fermentation and élevage were similar, with native yeasts, 90% full clusters and nine months in different sized barrels and a 4,200-liter oak vat. 2018 is clearly a great vintage, very complete, and the wines have more of everything: They are still young but are going to be superb, and you should wait on them while you drink your 2017s. This is like a more complete version of 2016, perhaps a vintage that is going to require more time. This is drinkable, but it's going to get better in bottle. 30,000 bottles produced. It's ironic how in a great year the grapes are perfect, you work less, you get more wine and the result is better!" - Luis Gutierrez
