Chateau Figeac

Chateau Figeac "Petit Figeac" 2012

40% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot. Chateau Figeac is not an old Bordeaux vineyard. Figeac is an ancient Bordeaux vineyard! In fact, the genesis of the estate can be dated as far back as the second century during the ancient Gallo-Roman period. At that time, the owner of the property, Figeacus gave his name to the villa he built in the same location. Even the ancient Romans knew Figeac had great terroir. Figeac is one of the few St. Emilion wine vineyards that has remained continually occupied for the past two thousand years. In 1947, Thierry Manoncourt took control of the property and never looked back. He was the first in his family to live at the estate. Today, Madame Marie-France Manoncourt is head of the estate and has ushered in a new chapter in the rich history of Figeac. It should also be noted that with Figeac's high Cabernet Sauvignon content (the vineyards are located next to Cheval Blanc are planted to 35% Cab Sauv, 35% Cab Franc, 30% Merlot) it is often described as the most Medoc-like of the Right Bank chateau. Petit Figeac is the wine of the estate (formerly called La Grange Neuve de Figeac from 1945 to 2011) and is lighter and less full-bodied than its senior, though it is not made from leftovers, it's made from younger vines. It has a beautiful length on the palate and a highly refined texture with a great capacity to seduce. It's a wine that shows its appeal early and is a great introduction to Chateau Figeac. Try 2012 now as it has some age on it and in the right spot to currently pop the cork.

Tasting Notes
"The 2012 Petit-Figeac is everything its name says it is. Wonderfully perfumed and expressive. The 2012 is supple, precise and beautifully delineated from start to finish. Silky tannins and a mid-weight sense of structure give the 2012 its classic feel. Scents of lavender, mint and white flower add an attractive aromatic top register. The Petit-Figeac is one of the hidden gems." - Antonio Galloni
