La Maison Romane Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits Rouge 2018
100% Pinot Noir. Following a career at the famous Revue des Vins de France, Oronce de Beler came back to its old 13th century house (La Maison Romane), in Vosne-Romanée in 2005 to follow his dream to make natural wines in Burgundy. He started as a micro négociant, buying organic and biodynamic fruit from old vineyards mostly in Côtes de Nuits, but also in Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Hautes Côtes de Beaune and Chablis. He plows the vines himself with its horses. He also believes a wine is made in the cellar, hands-off but full attention. He is looking for finesse, purity, and energy in his wines. This Hautes Cotes de Nuits Rouge is fermented whole cluster and has the fruit-driven quality of the vintage. As climate change continues to warm places like Burgundy, the vineyards on the tops of the hills, like this bottling, will become more popular as they will stay cooler than the vineyards closer to the floor. An excellent wine that shows the future of Burgundy and if you ever meet Oronce at his winery, make sure to say Hi! to his Corsican pigs he raises as well.
