La Morella Colli Tortonesi Timorasso 2017
100% Timorasso. La Morella is located in Carezzano, a small village on the hills of Tortona, in the province of Alessandria. This piece of land divides Piedmont from Liguria and Lombardy and has always been a highly contested territory due to the wars between the Austrians, Napoleon and Savoy. Enio Ferretti is the caretaker of the wine production at La Morella which exclusively works with organic methods and natural fermentation. Though Enio works with some varieties that most would know, like Barbera and Dolcetto, it is his work with the ancient white grape, Timorasso, which is exclusive to the hills surrounding his farm that caught our attention. In many circels, including here, Timorasso is Italy's most exciting, age-worthy white varietal. This is why names like Roagna, Oddero, Vietti, etc have recently acquired land in this little-known region. But it's the locals like Enio who know the land the best. He crafts a Timorasso that is full body with crisp acidity, good tannin and structure, and a honey, waxy texture. Then there is the floral aromatics and white fruit notes that lift the wine and gives it even more complexity. Get on the ground floor of the Timorasso ascendence and try Enio's lovely wines!
