Patrick Baudouin Anjou Les Croix 2015
100% Chenin Blanc. Patrick Baudouin is something a bit out of a JRR Tolkien novel—perhaps an aspiring wizard, which he may already be. His wines are somewhat magical in expression. But Patrick is more like a guru and is not short on opinion when it comes to the winemaking practices of other estates when driving around to visit his. His vineyards are situated on the great terroirs of the Anjou Noir—named after the dark-colored ancient metamorphic and volcanic rocks of the Massif Armoricain. The vineyards are certified, but well beyond the typical organic practice. He uses wild fermentation, eschewing chaptalization, and adding only very small doses of sulfur. For this, Patrick has received considerable recognition in France as one of the new stars for the Loire and is highly allocated. This beautiful, delicious Chenin is straight from the heart and a great introduction to Patrick's wines. Filled with green apple, pear, citrus and dried herbs notes the high acidity gives this wine fantastic energy and vivacity! Patrick is a musician turned maestro, conducting his vines to deliver soft, beautiful and tranquil music that resonate with one's soul.
